Three Muslim youths were beaten to death while taking cows to India

Global New News Desk -

Three Muslim youths were beaten to death while taking cows to India. Three Muslim youths were beaten to death by villagers while taking cows to Tripura, India, according to the state police. BJP spokesperson in Tripura Subrata Chakraborty said, "There is no doubt that the incident is very unfortunate.

The incident took place in Khowai district, 50 km from Agartala, the capital of Tripura, which is also very close to the Bangladesh border.

Although Muslims have been beaten to death in various parts of India for carrying cows or beef, such incidents are rare in the northeastern state.

Police claimed that the villagers suspected the slain youths to be cattle thieves. No arrests have been made so far in the killing of the three youths.

The deceased have been identified as Zayed Hossain, 30, Saiful Islam, 18, and Billal Miah, 28.

The BJP came to power in Tripura almost three years ago.

A senior police official at the local Teliamura police station told the BBC that the three men were spotted by villagers in a van on Sunday morning carrying five cows and buffaloes.

According to police, local villagers chased their car and seized the van near a village called Uttar Maharanipur on suspicion that they were fleeing after stealing cattle.

Two of the occupants of the vehicle were brutally beaten to death on suspicion of cattle theft.

One of them managed to escape, but he could not survive. He was also caught and beaten by locals near another village called Mungiakami a short distance away.

The bodies of the three youths were later taken to Agartala Government Medical College and GB Panth Hospital where they were declared dead.

Police said two separate mass beatings cases were registered in the murder, but no arrests were made until Monday afternoon.

About nine percent of Tripura's population is Muslim

Meanwhile, the mother of the slain Zayed Hossain has claimed that her son was never involved in any cattle smuggling or crime.

Speaking to reporters at GB Panth Hospital in the capital, he said he went out on a business trip with his son Billal Miah on Saturday afternoon - but had no idea where he had gone.

In northern or central India, there have been many incidents of so-called cattle rustling and beatings of Muslims, but in Tripura such incidents have not been heard of before.

As a result, the beating of three Muslim youths has made the ruling BJP leadership in the state very uncomfortable.

BJP spokesperson in Tripura Subrata Chakraborty said, "There is no doubt that the incident is very unfortunate. People should never take the law into their own hands.

He said the BJP would never support such behavior and that the government would conduct a proper investigation into the killings.
