Hardline Hindu leader is threatening to kill Muslims in Haryana, India

Death threats from mahapanchayats in India, Muslims in the state in panic

Global New News Desk -

On the 17th of last month, Asif Khan, a resident of Khalilpur Kheda village in Haryana, India, came to buy medicine in Sohna, a short distance from his home, when he was surrounded and beaten to death by a group of villagers.

A total of 14 people were named in the FIR in the case, at least five of whom are known to be close to the BJP and Sangh families in the area.

One after another Mahapanchayats or public rallies were called in the state within the lockdown to demand their release.

Haryana police have been forced to take a step back after a video of the rally spread like wildfire on social media a decade ago.

The person who made this call is the top leader of the Rajput organization Karni Sena. He himself posted the video on his Facebook page. But police have not yet made any arrests in the incident.

According to the Facebook page of the hardline Hindu leader Suraj Pal Amur, he is also in various positions in the ruling BJP.

Meanwhile, the Muslim community in the state is in a state of panic due to constant threats from the Mahapanchayats.

Police, however, did not want the killing of gym trainer Asif Khan to be considered a lynching incident, saying it was the result of personal enmity.

One after another Mahapanchayats were called in the state within the lockdown to demand their release.

Many people from Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan also came to such a gathering in Indri village of Mewat district near Noah on May 30. There was a crowd of about 50,000 people even during the curfew.

Later, in a video spread on social media, Suraj Pal Amu, the head of the Carney Army, was seen saying, "The slain Asif Khan used to make pornographic videos of our daughters, mothers and sisters, so why shouldn't he be murdered?"

"He has been punished for his actions. I will beat them a hundred times.

In addition to such extreme hate speech, various organizations have been holding rallies and rallies demanding the release of the accused.

"Are you a real Hindu or a child of Pakistan?"

In a video posted by the Carney Army chief himself, he begins his speech at the Mahapanchayat by saying, "Are you a real Hindu or a child of Pakistan?"

Haryana MP Asaduddin Owaisi, a member of Haryana's Muslim Raksha Dal, lodged a complaint with the police against the spread of such hatred and terror.

An FIR was also lodged on behalf of the family of the deceased Asif Khan.

Ayman Nisho, the mother of the slain Asif, was saying, "What was wrong with my son? He just went to fetch medicine, surrounded him and beat him to death."

"Now they're trying to get rid of those who beat him!"

Farah Naqvi, a well-known activist in Delhi, told BBC Bangla, "There has been direct incitement to violence against a community here."

"There is no shortage of laws in the country to arrest these speakers, but no action has been taken yet."

"But these are worse than hate speech, because these mahapanchayats or these videos have called for the right to kill - which is beyond reason!"

Ms. Naqvi thinks that India is gradually moving towards a situation where the law is no longer the same for all citizens.

Mewat's Muslim leader, Isha Mio, agrees.

He told the BBC: "Asif is another name on the list, as Rakbar Khan or Pahelu Khan have been beaten to death or Junaid Khan has been thrown off a train for taking cows.

"But in the place of the trial of his murder, we see a clear message being given that there is only one class in this country that has the right to say - others have nothing."

Mewat's police chief declined to comment on the controversial mahapanchayats across the state, saying only that the investigation into Asif Khan's murder was proceeding at its own pace. Sources, BBC
