"We will not forgive. We will not forget. We will find you and you will have to pay the ultimate price" - US President Biden

Afghanistan: US drone strike kills IS

Global New News Desk -

CNN reported on Friday (August 26th), citing Afghan health ministry officials, that 13 of the 160 people killed were US troops and three British nationals.

The New York Times reports that the death toll has risen to 160, excluding 13 U.S. troops.

The U.S. military says it has carried out a drone strike in eastern Afghanistan, killing a member of a group linked to the Islamic State jihadist group.

The operation targeted a "planner" of the ISK group based in Nangarhar province.

IS says it carried out a suicide bombing at Kabul airport on Thursday, killing 160 people. Among them were 13 American soldiers.

The United States has said in a statement that the bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a U.S. military base.

The United States has said no civilians were killed in the attack.

Public rescue operations have been underway at Kabul airport since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan earlier this month.

The deadline set by the United States for the end of the rescue operation in Afghanistan is coming to an end next Tuesday.

It is estimated that more than 10,000 people have been rescued in the past two weeks.

In the meantime, IS attacked the airport on Thursday.

President Joe Biden warned Friday that those behind the attack would be identified.

ISK or the Islamic State in Khorasan Province is basically a branch of the Islamic State group.

It is the most feared and violent of all jihadist militant groups in Afghanistan.

The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a crowd of men, women and children outside Kabul airport.

Several Afghans trying to flee the country were killed in the attack. The dead included U.S. military officials as well as the children of two British nationals and a British national.

President Biden warned the attackers on Friday. "We will not forgive. We will not forget. We will find you and pay the ultimate price for it."

As many as 5,000 US troops are still stationed at Kabul airport, leaving Afghans desperate to leave the country.

This is the first US drone strike in Afghanistan since Thursday's bombing.

"There have been unmanned airstrikes in Afghanistan's Nangarhar province. The initial presumption is that we were able to kill the target. We also know that no civilians were killed," said Capt. Bill Urban of Central Command.

Britain's last flight leaves Kabul, US warns of new attacks

An emergency rescue operation is under way in Kabul airport amid fears of renewed militant attacks.

Britain's latest flight with civilians has left Kabul. British officials have confirmed that Britain's rescue operation is set to end later today.

Italy's latest rescue flight from Kabul also arrived in Rome on Saturday. Earlier, Germany, France, Canada and Australia also announced the end of their rescue operations.

The United States, meanwhile, has warned its citizens to avoid Kabul airport. But there they will continue the rescue operation until the last minute.

The head of Britain's military says the rescue operation for civilians from Afghanistan is coming to an end today. General Sir Nick Carter said some flights from Kabul were still leaving for the UK, but the number was very low. He said it was heartbreaking that not everyone was rescued in the end. Many Afghans who are fit to come to Britain from Afghanistan have to be left there.

After the Taliban took control of Kabul in Emas, various countries started mass rescue operations from there. The British Ministry of Defense said it had rescued 14,543 people since August 13.

In an interview with the BBC's Today program, Sir Nick Carter said: "We are nearing the end of our rescue operation. It will be over by today (Saturday).

When the rescue operation was in full swing, there were about a thousand British troops there. However, some of these troops have left Afghanistan.

US warning

The U.S. embassy has again warned U.S. citizens against using the Kabul airport. In a warning issued a few hours ago, the US embassy in Afghanistan said they should avoid going to the airport and not use any gates at the airport. Those already waiting at various entrances to the airport have been asked to leave immediately.

The Taliban claim control of parts of Kabul airport. The United States has denied the allegations.

IS (Islamic State of Khorasan Province) claimed responsibility for Thursday's attack on Kabul airport.

The U.S. military says a drone strike has killed a leader of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in eastern Afghanistan. The U.S. military says a car bomb had exploded at an Iraqi police recruiting center at Kisak, west of Mosul.
