According to Ocla, the UAE has the fastest internet speed in the world with 193 Mbps download speed. It is followed by South Korea, Qatar, Norway and Cyprus.

The issue of low speed of mobile internet in the country came up in a survey of BTRC last March. According to the survey conducted in the two city corporation areas of Dhaka, the customers of Dhaka are getting 3 to 6 Mbps speed internet in 4G. However, according to the rules set by BTRC, customers have to pay a minimum of 8 Mbps internet speed.


 


The survey was conducted from January 23 to February 8. In this, it is seen whether the operators are serving the customers or not according to the rules issued by BTRC in 2016 by fixing the quality of service.


 


According to Oklar, Bangladesh ranks 97th out of 161 countries in terms of broadband internet speed. In this case, Bangladesh's position is two steps behind last month. Broadband download speeds in the country are just over 36 Mbps and upload speeds are around 36 Mbps.


 


Monaco tops the list in broadband with 271 Mbps. Turkmenistan is at the bottom with a speed of 4.49 Mbps. India ranks 70th in the list with 57 Mbps speed. Pakistan is 164th with a speed of 12.6 Mbps.

State Minister for ICT Junaid Ahmed Palak made the remarks while joining the inaugural function of 'Entrepreneurship Masterclass Series 2' online on Saturday.


 


Palak said at the event organized by Facebook-based Women e-Commerce (WI) that the ICT department has already created an alternative 'meeting' platform for Zoom Online and a vaccine management system 'Safety' app to prevent corona. WhatsApp's alternative platform 'Alapan' is being created for its own communication.


 


 


At this time, he gave details of the activities of creating various digital platforms including streaming platforms initiated by the ICT department.

Mentioning that digital e-commerce policy has been formulated in 2016, the state minister said the government is providing various assistance including policy to the youth in any new innovation to create millions of entrepreneurs in the country.


 


"Our goal is to create 20 lakh jobs in the ICT sector by 2021," he said. Of this, more than 15 lakh jobs have been successfully created.


 


He added that e-commerce, hardware, software and BPO sectors will be able to meet the target of more than 20 lakh jobs by 2021.


 


In addition, by 2025, it will be possible to earn five billion dollars in exports.
