Journalist Rozina Islam sued under Official Secrets Act

Secretary-General's spokesman Stephen Dujarric was asked about the issue as part of a regular briefing on Tuesday. UN Permanent Correspondent Mushfiqul Fazal Ansari presented the issue of Rozina Islam's arrest.


In response, Dujarric said, "The matter has come to our notice quoting various media outlets who have been arrested in Bangladesh." The incident is being monitored by the United Nations. This is obviously a matter of concern.

Meanwhile, Rozina Islam, a senior reporter of Prothom Alo, was detained for more than five hours when she went to the health ministry on Monday to perform her professional duties. At one point he fell ill. Police took him to Shahbagh police station around 8.30 pm. According to the police, a case has been filed against Rozina Islam under the Official Secrets Act. He has been shown arrested in this case.



Rozina Islam went to the secretariat for professional work yesterday afternoon. At around 3 in the afternoon, the journalists working in the secretariat came to know that Rozina Islam was kept in the room of the private secretary of the secretary of the health department. His mobile phone has been confiscated. Upon receiving this news, the journalists rushed there. Several policemen were seen in the room where Rozina was detained. There were a few more policemen outside the room. When some journalists entered the room, Rozina Islam said that she was harassed by a policeman named Mizan.


To find out what really happened, the reporters tried to talk to Health Secretary Lokman Hossain Miah a few times, but he did not want to talk. He did not even meet the journalists present. Other health ministry officials have not commented on the reason for Rozina's long detention.


But at one point the journalists were angry that a woman was not detained for such a long time. They protested against the harassment and detention of Rozina Islam. They also demanded that Rozina Islam be rushed to the hospital for treatment.

He was carrying some papers. Deputy Secretary Shibbir Ahmed has lodged a complaint against him at Osmani Police Station.



However, after meeting Rozina Islam at Shahbagh police station around 10 pm, her sister Sabina Parveen told reporters that her sister was being harassed while performing her professional duties. He complained that his sister's bag was snatched after the arrest. Then some 'documents' may have been put in the bag. His sister also expressed concern over Rozina Islam's physical condition.
