Global New News Desk -

Delhi police raid Twitter office The social media giant Twitter has raided the office of the social media giant Twitter after the opposition party agreed with the Congress over a controversial document in India.

Opposition groups called the Delhi Police raid on Monday night at a Twitter office in the capital Delhi and on the outskirts of Delhi a "tactic of intimidation", but Twitter has not yet commented.

Controversial document tweeted,

Earlier, the ruling BJP national spokesperson tweeted a controversial document claiming that Sambit Patra was made by the Congress, which Twitter labeled as 'manipulated media' or 'distorted news'.

For this, the government first demanded an apology from Twitter, then the police raided their office.

Officers of the Special Cell of the Delhi Police went to the Twitter India office in Ladosarai, South Delhi and interrogated the security guards last night.

None of the senior Twitter officials were in the office at the time, as almost all workers were 'working from home' during the epidemic.

Some of the selected media outlets were informed before the operation, and the interrogation scene was captured on camera by one such news agency.

The Delhi Police, under the central government, later said they had launched the operation to investigate on what basis BJP leader Sambit Patra's tweet was branded as distorted news on Twitter.

Mr Potter made the tweet just a week ago, in which he submitted a document claiming that the opposition's research wing was conspiring to tarnish the government's image using the epidemic situation.

"This toolkit proves that Congress is doing dirty politics even in the midst of an epidemic," Mr Patra told a news conference that day.

'Manipulated media'

"They are even suggesting to use words like 'Indian variant' or 'Modi variant' of the virus as much as possible. They are asking to describe Kumbh Mela as a super spreader event."

The Congress leadership almost immediately claimed that the document being called a toolkit was completely fake.

Party spokesperson Pawan Khera also said, "This document was created by copying the letterhead of our research wing - and this is being done to divert people's attention from the failure to control the epidemic."

The Congress also brought a charge of forgery against BJP leaders at the Tughlaq Road police station in Delhi.

Meanwhile, Mr Patra's tweet was branded as 'manipulated media' by Twitter.

Three days ago, the Indian Ministry of Information and Technology asked Twitter to explain why the move was made.

And within forty-eight hours, the Delhi Police went straight to the Twitter office.

Opposition Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi said, "There was no investigation into the Congress-forged FIR - but on the contrary, the Delhi Police went to investigate how Twitter came to know that the document was fake."

"It is clear that this was done on the orders of the Home Ministry and the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, and it is not an investigation - just intimidation!"

Twitter is neither an investigative agency nor a court,

Social media analyst and BJP-affiliated Shefali Vaidya has again backed the police move, arguing that Twitter is neither an investigative agency nor a court that will give a verdict that distorts any news, nor does it.

In the words of Miss Vaidya, "they are just a platform to express their views and as a corporate body they have to abide by the laws of India - they have no authority to play the role of judges of their own."

Twitter has not yet commented on the operation.

However, they did not remove the label of 'perverted news' from BJP leader Sambit Patra's tweet till Tuesday evening! Sources, BBC
